Smart people means Entec Thermosensors can design and manufacture custom temperature probes for any application with very short lead times.
One of our strengths is the quality of our people. Entec has a huge team of really smart people who are great at solving problems. This is a key reason that our customers come back to us time and time again.
We have industry experience, great skills stemming from good old-fashioned trades training, and best of all we have enquiring minds and the right attitude to get the job done.
Entec Thermosensors
Our temperature measurement business – Entec Thermosensors – is a case in point. We have the ability to design a temperature probe for almost any application, and we manufacture in-house.

We can offer a custom product and very short lead times.
This is all backed up with the assurance of installation and service support from our team of Instrumentation & Electrical technicians, supported by our IANZ accredited calibration laboratory.

Thermosensors example #1
During a recent visit to a laboratory client, our technician observed Type T thermocouples installed on a sterilising autoclave. He commented to the site operator, “I bet you have issues with these leaking water.”
Indeed, they did.
The issue stems from the pressurised, humid environment inside the autoclave forcing a trickle of water out within the thermocouple wire.
Fortunately, we’ve engineered a way of preventing this by including a mechanical barrier within the thermocouple itself to provide an effective seal against leaks.
Thermosensors example #2
Another client uses Type R thermocouples within a reheat furnace, with temperatures in excess of 1,200 degrees Celsius, operating in an arduous environment.
The platinum thermocouple wiring probes require mechanical protection.
After an investment of time and research, we have now been supplying protective sheaths made of a product called hexoloy – a specialist material manufactured for just this sort of application.
Thermosensors example #3
Finally, another recent site visit highlighted an issue that we are often called upon to solve for our customers – coping with the weird and wonderful in terms of unusual dimensions, threads and connection types.
This particular item involved a metric M27 thread in an application where a ¾” BSP thread is the norm.
This often stems from plant and equipment imported into New Zealand with features that are non-standard in local industry.
Fortunately, Entec’s thermosensor operation includes a flexible jobbing shop that allows us to design, modify, manufacture or repair all manner of mechanical items.
We can usually come up with a long-lasting and practical solution to the strange issues that we come across in our travels.
How we work
The first step is to get a thorough understanding of the application. We need to know the temperature range, dimensions, connection detail, whether or not it requires a thermowell, and anything particular regarding the environment or response time.
We can promptly issue you a drawing and a quote. And then, as soon as you give us the go-ahead, we can get on and build it.
A huge part of our business in Entec Thermosensors is repeat business, testament (we believe) to our success at solving our customers’ curly problems.
